JahSing keeps its name and its concept: a local library, a real player, internet radio, lyrics, tag editing, tracker modules and Winamp skins, on a maintained, portable stack.
The JahSing lineage
Jahsee (1998): a 100% Java-based MP3 playlist manager.
JahSing 1 (2000–2009): the first ever 100% Java-based MP3 player and playlist manager.
JahSing 2 (2009–2020): a Java desktop player with internet radio, tag editing and Winamp skin support.
JahSing 3 (2026): the same idea, rebuilt for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
JahSing 2 was about 46,000 lines of Java Swing on the Java Media Framework, with an applet mode and a stack of bundled look-and-feel packs. None of the Java media libraries it relied on still work today, so JahSing 3 is a rebuild, not a port.
Every part of JahSing 2 was carried across deliberately:
Playback → a modern audio engine, identical byte-for-byte on desktop and mobile.
Tag editing → full read and write for the common formats (ID3, Vorbis comments, MP4), cover art included.
Internet radio → a clean station directory with live “now playing” info.
Lyrics → time-synced lyrics from a maintained public source.
The playlist → an indexed local library the app queries instantly.
The bitmap skins → a full classic Winamp 2 skin mode.
Video capture, broadcasting and the old applet mode were dropped; a coherent design system replaces the bundled look-and-feel packs.
Roadmap
Where it is, and where it’s going
Phase 1: shipping
The local media player
Library, playlists, favourites, queue, radio, podcasts, synced lyrics, tag editor, 10-band EQ, balance, video with pop-out, tracker modules and classic skin mode: a complete local player on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
Phase 2: accounts available
Accounts, sync & listening together

Built with
JahSing 3 is built on a modern, maintained cross-platform foundation, with a shared core that behaves identically on every device. The look is the Kanata AI visual language: the Inuksuk mark, the Tundra Cream terrain, Sovereign Red used sparingly, and a generated stone-grain texture.
A local library, playlists, a real player, internet radio, lyrics, tag editing, tracker-module playback and a nod to Winamp skins — on a maintained, portable stack.
JahSing 3 is free to use and local-first, with advanced features available by subscription. Desktop builds for Windows, macOS and Linux are ready now. Grab the one for your platform.
