The archive is unpacked in the app and its bitmaps become the classic on-screen controls. If it has a main.bmp, it loads; otherwise you get a clear “not a classic Winamp 2 skin” message.

The Winamp era, kept alive
JahSing has skinned itself like Winamp 2 since 2009. JahSing 3 keeps the whole engine: press Ctrl+Shift+S and the modern shell gives way to bitmap sprites, the marquee and the windowshade.
The bundled default: “JahSing 3”, a Kanata-stone repaint of every Winamp 2 sprite sheet.
Heritage
Java-based since 1998, one idea worth keeping
JahSing began in 1998 as Jahsee, a 100% Java-based MP3 playlist manager. JahSing 1 (2000–2009) was the first ever 100% Java-based MP3 player and playlist manager, and JahSing 2 (2009–2020) was the Java Swing desktop player whose Winamp skin support (the skin chooser, bitmap frames and sliders, the controlled marquee) was core, not a gimmick.
None of those Java media libraries still work today, so JahSing 3 is a rebuild. The skin engine was rebuilt faithfully: the classic look is a first-class UI mode, not a nostalgia filter.

The marquee, all six ways
The six “Title Display Motion” animations from JahSing 2 (scroll, bounce, fly, matrix) are all here, driven from Settings.
Switch in a keystroke
Ctrl+Shift+S toggles skin mode from anywhere. The OS window resizes to the skin; toggle back and it restores. Choose a different skin from Settings → “Choose skin…”.
The generic base skin ships alongside the branded one, so there’s always a fallback; it also doubles as the app’s skin-decoder test fixture.
